Fort Ord Cleanup Public Comment Period

The U.S. Department of the Army (Army) is announcing the public comment period for the Finding of Suitability to Transfer (FOST) Amendment #2, Former Fort Ord, California, Parker Flats Munitions Response Area Parcels L2.3 and L2.4.1 (FOST 11). The public is encouraged to review and comment on this document from April 23, 2026 to April 30, 2026.

The FOST Amendment is in preparation for the transfer of Parcels L2.3 and L2.4.1 to the City of Seaside consistent with Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) Section 120(h) and Department of Defense (DoD) policy. The Parcels are located northeast of Gigling Rd and 8TH Avenue. A FOST is a DoD determination that federal property is environmentally suitable for transfer by deed because cleanup is not required or complete. When required, FOST identifies protections like land use controls. FOST 11 was issued in 2010 after a 30-day public comment period and first amended in 2023.
